Welcome
The Bureau of Social Science Research (BSSR) was established in July of 2007 as a research infrastructure center through the Office of the Vice Provost for Research to support research in the social sciences on the Indiana University, Bloomington campus. The mission of the BSSR is to support collaboration among social scientists to address real world problems, such as disease, illiteracy, immigration, terrorism, poverty, environmental degradation, mental illness, crime, and democratization. To that end BSSR will be organized around four primary functions.
- Information Center: our goal is to make the BSSR the information hub for the social sciences at Indiana.
- Grant Services: the BSSR is currently providing professional and clerical support for proposal development and grant management. As appropriate, the BSSR can provide financial support for the development of proposals that have significant potential for external funding.
- Research Services: the BSSR will work with other units to coordinate research facilities for the social sciences, develop new services as needed, and offer training in research methodology and grantsmanship. A critical aspect of this function is to serve as a conduit to link researchers to existing resources.
- Research Development: the BSSR facilitates research initiatives. These activities range from providing seed funding for projects that have substantial potential for external funding to bringing together research groups with or without visiting scholars.
The first priority of the Bureau has been to develop grant services to assist all social scientists on campus in developing and submitting proposals. For details on these services, please check here. In the next year, additional services will be developed. If you have suggestions or want more information about the Bureau, please feel free to contact us.
